Stewart Acuff

Stewart Acuff is a veteran labor organizer, activist, author, and longtime advocate for working people. Over a career spanning decades, he has organized workers and communities across the United States and held leadership positions throughout the labor movement, including serving as President of the Atlanta Labor Council and Director of Organizing for the AFL-CIO. He also helped lead the successful effort to unionize workers at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

Acuff began his career as a community organizer before joining the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), where he organized workers and later became Executive Director of the Georgia State Employees Union. His work has consistently connected labor organizing with broader struggles for economic, racial, and social justice.

In Justice Is Our Love in Action, Acuff draws on a lifetime devoted to organizing and collective action, reflecting his belief in solidarity, human dignity, and the power of ordinary people to create meaningful change. He is also the author of Playing Bigger Than You Are: A Life in Organizing and co-author of Getting America Back to Work. Now retired from full-time union work, Acuff continues to organize and advocate for working people.
